Pride Festival, Parade & Dinner at Hard Rock Café

Come join your A&FH friends for a fun day of partying, pride and parade. Now more than ever we need to support each other and show our strength and our pride. And have fun too! Of course!

It was 40 years ago this month that Anita Bryant came to down to spread her anti-gay message that “homosexuals are human garbage,” sparking the Houston LGBT community’s “Stonewall moment.” More than 8,000 LGBT individuals marched in protest through downtown to the library plaza where they became a community with an identity and a voice. (Thanks, Anita!)

On Saturday, June 24th, join us at the “huuuge!!!” Pride Festival, listening to music, checking out the booths, people watching, even bathing in the reflecting pool if you dare.  Then cool off in wonderful air conditioning with lots of liquids at the Hard Rock Café for early cocktails and dinner. Finally, fully refreshed, watch the night-time Houston Pride Parade with us, screaming your lungs out, catching beads and marveling at the great breadth, depth and diversity of our great Houston LGBTQ community. All the Pride events are ADMISSION FREE!

Pride Festival:  12-7 PM. (meet at 2:30 PM)

By this time you are probably asking yourself “How will I find the Asians & Friends group among the thousands of beautiful people?”  Here are two ways. One way is to meet us (your president and first spouse and other board members) at 2:30 PM on the north side of City Hall on Walker Street (just type in “Houston City Hall” on Google Maps). There are entry gates (free) on either end of the block, at Walker and Bagby and Walker and Smith.

Dinner at Hard Rock Café:  4:30 PM (502 Texas Avenue, 77002, in Bayou Place)

It’s close to the Festival. It has air conditioning. It can accommodate a large group. And we can linger afterwards if we want. Join us for drinks and an early dinner before the Parade. We have a table for 20 reserved at 4:30 PM. To reserve a spot, RSVP to our board Secretary, Paul, at pauldak@gmail.com. If you forget to reserve a spot (how rude!) join us anyway.  It’s a big place and we will be way early.

Dinner at Hard Rock Café  -  4:30PM Reservation/Paul at pauldak@gmail.com

The Fabulous 2017 Houston Pride Parade:   8:30-11 PM

Meet us at the North West corner of Milam and McKinney to watch the parade. Some of us will be there around 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Be patient. If it’s too crowded there we may have to wander down Milam to find a viewing spot.
